I'm Zach
Designer, woodworker, and dad. Birchkid began the day my daughter was born. I realized I could finally pursue my passion for furniture despite my small shop, if I just made small furniture for small humans!
Development
As I began ideating around different designs, I would bring little prototypes inside for my then ~1 year old to inspect. Watching her face of intrigue and excitement as she would move around and babble feedback. I take notes and make changes until we get to something that she approves.
After creating a variety of prototypes I realized 3 things I was always aiming for. I wanted to make things that were: responsible, developmentally oriented, and elegant.
Made Small Batch, in the USA
In order to ensure our products are built to the highest standards, we make each one by hand—meticulously assembling, filing, sanding, and finishing. This ensures each order that goes out has had a high degree of attention and care. All our products are subjected to third party testing to ensure we meet all applicable CPSC and ASTM safety standards required for children's products.
